Welcome to what is affectionately referred to in the recovery community as the “triple crown” or the “trifecta.” Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. This is the time of year when people begin feeling the pull to gather at tables to share meals with friends and family, raise toasts and celebrate, shop for gifts and make resolutions for the new year. This is a wonderful time of year. But it can also be very, very stressful. And if you’re struggling with a substance abuse problem, in recovery from addiction or are close to someone who is: this can be an especially stressful time of year.
Folks with a little time in recovery agree that the holidays always remain a little bittersweet but that each year they get a little better as they settle in to long term sobriety.
In the months ahead we’ll be posting lots of content to help anyone struggling with the holidays – whether you think you may have a problem or are just feeling antsy around the eggnog at the office holiday party.
